Starting in Airsoft...

Jan 03, 2019

So your getting into airsoft....... and your looking at everything and want to buy it all.

Slow down.....
Big mistake for those starting in airsoft is they buy a lot of stuff they won't use that much. Do some research and ask other airsofters and local shops for info on products. It's too easy to buy online and not know the quality or if the product will do what you think it will. Buy what you need to start, get out playing, talk to players and go from there.

You don't need all the kit to start playing:

You don't have to have a camo uniform, vest, etc. To start what you need is

  1. Good eye protection, try out a few in your local shop and see what guys are using at your local site. Some people go for full face, its down to you what you find comfortable. some sites do require full face protection. which means a full face mask or  glasses / goggles and a lower face mask.

  2. High boots, that are laced up to the top, you need the ankle support to reduce injury.

  3. Clothing to suit the terrain and weather. Green and brown clothing if your outdoor, darker clothing for indoor, but it does depend on the environment your in.  You don't have to get camo starting off.

  4. Quality bbs, don't buy the cheapest ones. If they are under €10 for 5000 then there is a possibility they are not great and could cause a jam and damage the internals of your gun. Always  watch out for a seam around the bb. they should be perfectly smooth, and polished.

  5. Get a good quality gun, Cyma & JG do very durable and low cost start guns. get something that you will be able to carry for the day. Starting in to  Airsoft with a sniper is not a good idea. It takes time to learn to  be a good fast shot, your up against full auto guns. It also takes time to be stealthy.

  6. A fully charged 1600mAh battery for your rifle, yes a lot of people forget to charge there battery after practicing they moves in the back garden :)

  7. Wear something on your head, baseball cap etc.

  8. Bring some food and water. don't eat too or drink much, at the start of the day or between games. it won't mix will if your doing a lot of  running around.

once you have all of the above your ready for your first game of airsoft. Remember also if you don't have a gun or mask, most sites do a rental pack that includes Gun, mag, bbs and mask. but these normally have to be booked in advance.

When buying more gear, talk to other players, look at their gear. best advice will come from those experienced players. Just because something is expensive or looks good, does not mean its good or suitable for you.

Hi Guys Doug here from Gambits Custom Airsoft Not so long back, i picked up an Evolution Carbontech Combat Series EC21AR Recon S 10" from Waterford Airsoft Supplies for a tidy sum €200, and i must say im quite impressed. More than quite. I'm VERY impressed. There are many replicas that perform well out of the box, but i'm liking this one. I really am liking this one! So there is an unboxing video, and between a rather slow editing programme, and an even slower editor (me), that's going to come after this post at some point in a long to be forgotten future...fine....soon....ish... There is also a bit of footage of me gaming with it, scoring some epic kills, and potentially causing some massive head trauma to myself, but i'll refer you back to the start of this paragraph. The clip is quite funny, i may post that separately. Anyway... In a nutshell, out if the box, this replica is lightweight. Compared to a G&G Firehawk light weight i mean, and that's light as well as short. Stock and receivers are made of a durable polymer, and it is strong. Over the last month iv gamed, dropped, and even thrown (don't ask) this replica, and its stood up to abuse. The keymod rail *feels* like aluminium but if its polymer its damn strong! Overall, this is one solid built and sturdy AEG! For the price, your getting the equivalent of a G&G, ICS, and Specna Arms. Hell, as much as i detest Ares, the externals are good and the Evolution's are more than a challenge to them too. There are no creaks or rattles from this replica!
